Telomeres, Epigenetics and Trauma (TET)

Under the Clinical and Translational Science Institute Grant, our research team seeks to identify individual and transgenerational biomarkers of advanced aging and resilience in sexual trauma survivors and their children. This study is the first to examine the link between sexual trauma, advanced aging, PTSD, and epigenetics/telomere length directly. By establishing a link between trauma, advanced aging, PTSD, and epigenetics/telomere length, our research will elucidate the underlying biological consequences of trauma as well as advance the understanding of the interaction of inherent (genetic) and environmentalfactors that contribute to psychological responses.
